Prince Harry, now the Duke of Sussex, has been very busy these last few months (especially being married to the beautiful and talented former TV Actress, Meghan Markle). As expected, their personal and public lives have kept them both busy.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were just an awesome sight to see on their beautiful wedding day.
The newly-minted royal couple has a variety of charitable responsibilities to uphold, but one of the charities close to Prince Harry’s heart is his Invictus Games Foundation.
The Invictus Games Foundation is a Paralympic Sports Charity that allows wounded, injured, or sick armed personnel and associated veterans to participate in wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing and sitting volleyball. The Duke of Sussex founded the charity in 2014.
The Paralympics-styled games gives wounded veterans an opportunity to continue to work as teams, as well as continue to excel in sports beyond their injuries. The games have helped many wounded veterans heal as much mentally as it has physically (which in some cases is more important than the physical healing).
The First Invictus Games was held in London, and has covered the globe. The next Invictus Games will be in Sydney, Australia, and will feature 500 competitors from 18 participating nations. The nations include Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Wounded veterans can compete in as many individual and team sports as they like, as long as they meet the Invictus Games requirements. Every participant is picked by their respective country.
All of the veteran participants are already champions!
This international sporting event for wounded, injured and ill veterans, and active service personnel, has had a lasting and positive effect on its participants. Having served his country for over 10 years in the military, it is easy to see why fighting for and having this charity is important to the former military man, Prince Harry, now Duke of Sussex.
